In this modern era, fireworks represent happiness,
celebrations and joy. However, the chemicals or gunpowder used in it can cause
severe burns and injuries if precautionary measures are not taken.
Safety
Measurements and Precautionary Measures
You can enjoy fireworks safely by following a few
simple safety tips:
1.
Always
assure that fireworks are legal in your area.
2.
The
fireworks that are packed in brown paper are only for professionals so avoid
them if you are unaware of how to deal with them.
3.
Before
purchasing fireworks, read all the descriptions in labels and be aware of any
particular effects such as launched sparks, colour changes, sirens, or
spinning, so you should know what to expect.
4.
Make sure
that you have a clear and open place for firework activities, and that should
be away from any electricity or gas supply source or any combustible material.
5.
Before
lighting the fireworks, be sure that the area has adequate light to see the
fuse clearly, and if required you can use your flashlight.
6.
Always have
adult supervision during firework activities especially with sparklers, rockets
and missile
fireworks.
7.
Don’t drink
alcohol while doing firework activities as well as don’t wear loose clothing.
8.
Use
fireworks outdoors and have a fire extinguisher, bucket of water or a hose
nearby in case of any accidents.
9.
After
lighting the firework, you should back up to a safe distance immediately
especially in the case of rockets and missile fireworks, make sure your
audience is at a minimum distance of 150 feet.
10.
While
lighting sparklers that can reach temperature 1800ºF (982ºC), hot enough to
melt gold, make sure to keep them away from the hair, face or clothes.
11.
You should
wear safety glasses in case of lighting missile fireworks and make sure that
you set up your missile on a hard, flat, level surface.
12.
During
missile fireworks, try to track a trajectory of the flight path of the missile
to make sure that it will come down and not ends in an accident.
13.
It would
help if you never tried to re-light the missile firework that fails to light in
the first time. This kind of missile firework should be disposed of safely
after soaking it in the water bucket.
14.
You should
use long lighter or long-handled matchbox to keep as far as possible from the
fuse.
15.
Avoid any
altering or combining fireworks like trimming fuses or lighting them together
to make a huge display.
16.
Never let
your kids aim the fireworks towards people, buildings or windows for fun as it
might result in a serious mishap.
17.
Before
lighting your firework, always place them on the flat ground to avoid any
accidental dropping or burns.
18.
It would
help if you keep your pets inside your houses or away from the lighting area as
loud noises or pungent smells can frighten animals into impulsive behaviour.
19.
Never try
to ignite fireworks in a container such as buckets, cans and bottles.
20.
Avoid
lighting fireworks in stormy condition as it might change the flight path and
may move to charge unexpectedly.
